Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), also known as mead wort or bee grass, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. It can be recognized by its reddish and hairless stem and its fragrant flowers at the top, which give off a characteristic odor reminiscent of "medicine" when crushed. This characteristic also earned the name vegetable aspirin because it contains salicylic acid. Native to North America, Meadowsweet grows widely in humid environments, near watercourses and meadows sufficiently irrigated. Its flowering tops are used in herbal medicine, fresh or dried.
