Cacao tree (Theobroma cacao) or cocoa tree is an evergreen tree belonging to the Malvaceae family. Originally from Mexico and cultivated more than 3,000 years ago, the cocoa tree measures between 10 and 15 m tall in the wild. Only a tiny fraction of its flowers, which appear all year round, bear fruit. They are called "pods" and are elongated berries whose size varies between 15 and 20 cm. In these fruits, we find many seeds arranged on the cob, referred to as beans. These are used, after roasting, for the manufacture of chocolate and cocoa. But little known, these cocoa fruits have medicinal virtues.
