Anamu (Petiveria alliacea) is also known as Mucura, apacina and guinea hen weed. It has been used to reduce inflammation and pain, strengthen the immune system and combat some chronic issues. It is a species of small wild shrub with erect stems and elliptic or obovate leaves. Its size can vary between 3 and 20 decimetres, but the leaves are relatively large (approximately 20x7cm). This herbaceous shrub is native to the Amazon rainforest, although it grows throughout South America, Central America, and the United States. One of the peculiar characteristics of the root and leaves is their strong garlic smell.
